This simplifies the load transfer operation significantly and no new technologies are required. This results in a greater certainty of cost and schedule and ensures a safe operation. The ability to raise the platform out of water provides a safe, fixed working platform for the preparatory work to be completed prior to removal of a topsides and jacket. These advantages result in the IDV having a superior HSE performance compared to many other concepts.

The TPG 500 IDV is a new "Installation and Decommissioning Vessel" developed by Technip. The IDV can operate in water depths up to 120m and lift or remove packages up to 14,000t in a single lift. It is a fixed platform during the load transfer operation and offers therefore numerous advantages.
The IDV is directly derived from the

industry proven TPG 500 series of jack-up production platforms. Two of these platforms have been installed in the North Sea, on the BP Harding and Elf Elgin fields; a third, Shah Deniz for the Caspian, also for BP, is in the design construction phase. Since the IDV is bottom founded, it does not require any active systems to compensate for motion due to sea conditions.

The IDV has a U-shaped hull / deck which has four legs, each of a triangular lattice design, almost identical to the existing legs of the TPG 500.

The legs are fitted with large area spud cans, which enable virtually zero penetration in typical North Sea clays or sandy soils and provide a degree of fixity to improve dynamic performance. Since the IDV can be regarded as a fixed structure during the load transfer operation it may alternatively be fitted with lifting appliances such as an "A" frame or gantry crane,

as seen in the pictures below. Modules can be lifted onto a deck which is spanning between the two pontoons.

In addition to installation and decommissioning activities, the IDV can also perform the following:

  • Work/construction platform
  • Accommodation platform
  • Drilling platform
  • Bridge construction
  • Windmill installation
  • Retrieval of sunken ships
In summary:
  • Proven technology (Ref TPG 500 platforms)
  • Certainty of cost and schedule
  • Fixed platform during load transfer
  • No heave nor surge
  • No ballasting
  • Superior HSE performance
